KCRSCCA Event 5
July 20, 2008

  • 82.791 sec.
  • 80.682 sec.
  • 75.366 sec. <– Rick Hartpence was driving this run. Thanks, Rick!
  • 77.220 sec.

Summary: This was my first event, and a lot of fun. So what if I was 15 seconds off the class lead? I learned a lot, stayed on course, killed no cones, and shaved five and a half seconds off my first time of the day. Rick’s a Miata guy and this was his first time autocrossing a FWD car, so there should be even more time to eke out of it, crappy tires or no.

KCRSCCA Event 6

Course Map

  • 79.149 sec.
  • 78.386 sec.
  • 75.618 sec.
  • 76.915 sec.

Summary: I’m starting to feel where the limits of my car are.  Ran very hot on my first time through the course, and skidded around a lot and made several mistakes.  I reeled it in on my second run (rode with an instructor who was out with an ITA-prepped CRX Si), didn’t gain much time but found the right line.  Third run I sped it up, and on my fourth would have been around 75 seconds but I came into the first chicane too hot and nearly spun out.  Still 15 seconds off class lead, but I’m getting a feel for things.

Crown Autocross Event 6
September 7, 2008

  • 56.533
  • 56.777+1
  • 54.105
  • 53.481

Summary: This event made me do things with the car that I hadn’t had to do before.  Figuring out how to manage turns that, while not necessarily tight, were challenging to maintain speed on, was hard.  At a couple of points the rear end drifted out on me and I had to figure out how to correct.  I corrected the slow way, but whatever…  Anyway, I’m learning what I do wrong and how to correct it, and I have a fairly solid grip on my car and my level of skill.  Now to improve them…

KC Championships
October 4-5, 2008

Saturday:

  • 62.386
  • 61.548
  • 62.518 + 1
  • 60.837 + 1

Sunday

  • 57.677
  • 56.442
  • 55.494
  • 53.933 + 1

Summary: Well, between my poor driving and nasty timing issues on Saturday that kept me from getting a good groove going, I didn’t do so hot here.  PAX’ed in the bottom of the pack and got whipped by the rest of Street Tire.  Nonetheless, it was goo learning experience.  I got to test the limits of adhesion on my new tires and learn how they responded.  Also learned what cones sound like…

KCRSCCA Halloweenie
October 26, 2008

  • 72.742
  • 69.056
  • 67.396+1
  • 68.078

Summary: Not much to say here.  Still slow, did much better then earlier in the month, but made mistakes’o'plenty.  The wind was killer — Timing was getting all kinds of phantom starts from leaves and wind gusts, and the cold was absolutely awful.
